Client Description

Health Care Service Corporation, (HCSC), and an Independent Licensee of the Blue Cross & Blue Shield Association, is the largest customer-owned health insurer in the United States and fourth largest overall. Founded in 1936, HCSC serves nearly 15 million members across five states and employs more than 20,000 people in over 60 local offices.

Challenge

HCSC had a business need to enable business units the ability to view reports and metrics from self-reported, biometric lab results, with predictive modeling, clinical metrics, and overall program utilization. The challenge was the data formats being consumed and how the code would ingest it. Self-reported results need to be tied to a specific customer across many different internal data repositories.

Solution

iOLAP designed and implemented code to perform member matching using numerous different name-matching rules to identify the customer. This was done to avoid the duplication of records and the ability to combine all results from different sources to one employee. iOLAP built six (6) data marts and customer conformed dimensions to enable the reporting of all subject areas.

Benefits

There were many benefits to the solution such as the predictive modeling would allow HCSC identify that a patient with a heart condition was not taking his medication by looking into the program utilization and lab results.
